In a new addition to our
How Do They Do That
series
Sarah will be finding out how two
locomotives, attached to a train, are driven.
Who's in charge?  Do the drivers shout instructions
to one another?  Who applies the brakes?  How do they
share the power?

A Page for Railway Modellers

In what is believed to be just an excuse to create a new model railway
for herself, Sarah will be writing a series of articles on this engaging
hobby. Whilst the features will be slanted towards the buildings,
bridges, signal boxes, signals and lineside equipment on the
South Devon Railway the series will be of interest both to
G.W.R. and general modellers.

We are also going to link up with  Expressway Models which is the
South Devon Railway's model railway shop.  Located at Buckfastleigh
station, Expressway Models stocks an excellent range of models from manufacturers including Bachmann, Hornby, Peco, Gaugemaster,
Ratio, Model Scene and Graham Farish.  We'll be looking at some of the manufacturers models of the life size rolling stock that can be found on the SDR and photographing the shop's extensive model layout.

Saturdays at Totnes

With around twenty volunteers reporting
for duty, a hive of industry can found every
Saturday at Totnes Littlehempston Station.
Mind you it is said that they are the best fed
volunteers on the railway and as I've
sampled the food at lunchtime I can vouch for that!

There are a few more photographs to be
taken of the various restoration projects
being undertaken by this multi skilled
team who, over the years, have built a
station where no station existed before.

In the concluding part of
A Photographers Guide to The South Devon Railway

our own Photographer in Residence, Sarah Anne Harvey, continues
her journey down the line towards Totnes.  From Staverton
Station we take the riverside walk alonside the Dart to just beyond
the sluice gates.  If you break your train journey at Staverton this
tree lined walk is also an ideal place to stop for a picnic.

As in Part One the article is illustrated with photographs taken
from public places and footpaths.
